Do impact sprinklers water evenly? (Unveiling the core knowledge point)

The question of whether impact sprinklers distribute water evenly is a concern for many gardening enthusiasts. Simply put, these sprinklers are designed to achieve even coverage over a large area, but the actual effectiveness depends on how they operate.

We can understand this from the following perspectives:

● Coverage through "rhythmic" movement

The reason impact sprinklers distribute water evenly is entirely due to their characteristic rotating motion.
Uniform rotation: With each impact, the sprinkler head moves a small amount. As long as the water pressure is stable, it will rotate precisely like a clock, spraying water in a circle.
Sector adjustment: If you set the range of left and right oscillation, it will scan back and forth within that range, ensuring that every inch of soil receives water.

● Spray design that covers both near and far areas

Many people worry that it only sprays far away, leaving the area near the sprinkler dry. However, well-designed impact sprinklers employ a clever trick:
Main water stream sprays far: The strong water stream is responsible for impacting the ground at a distance, ensuring the spray range.
Water droplets spray near: Near the nozzle, there is usually a small metal plate (a diffuser plate) that breaks up part of the water stream, forming small droplets that fall near the sprinkler head.
"Leaking" during impact: When the impact arm strikes the water stream, it also splashes some water, which conveniently provides water to the area directly beneath the sprinkler head.

● Strong resistance to interference

Compared to sprinklers that produce a mist, impact sprinklers spray actual water droplets.
Unaffected by light breezes: Heavier water droplets are less likely to be blown off course by the wind. This means that water intended for the left side of the lawn won't all drift to the right due to a light breeze, thus maintaining even coverage in the intended area.

● Factors that can affect evenness

Although impact sprinklers are scientifically designed, two points need attention during actual use:
Stable water pressure is essential: If the water pressure at home fluctuates, the sprinkler's range will vary, and the rotation speed will slow down. This will result in some areas being soaked while others remain dry. Overlapping coverage: Experienced users know that it's difficult to achieve perfect coverage with just one sprinkler head. Typically, two impact sprinklers are placed at a certain distance from each other, allowing their coverage areas to overlap partially. This ensures that both areas are covered, resulting in the best possible effect.
