Working Principle

An impact sprinkler contains a small component that is rotated by the incoming water flow. When the water pressure is sufficient, this component rotates rapidly, causing the sprinkler head to oscillate from side to side. The water is sprayed out in a fan shape, covering a circular or semi-circular area. The rhythmic "clicking" sound during operation is due to the mechanism adjusting the direction of the spray.

Main Components

An impact sprinkler typically consists of several simple parts: a housing, a spring (for resetting), a nozzle (water outlet), and an impact arm (the small tapping rod). These components are durable and easy to install on water pipes.

Advantages

The advantages of this type of sprinkler include a wide coverage area, making it suitable for large lawns or agricultural fields. It is durable and resistant to clogging, even with water containing sediment. Additionally, it has a long spray distance and is easy to adjust, allowing for adjustments to the spray angle or distance. It is usually inexpensive and easy to maintain.

Disadvantages

Impact sprinklers also have some drawbacks. For example, they can be noisy during operation, which may be disruptive. Strong winds can cause the water to be blown off target, leading to waste. Furthermore, the uniformity of the spray is not as good as some advanced sprinklers, and corners may not be adequately watered.

Common Uses

Impact sprinklers are commonly used in home gardens, park lawns, sports fields, and agricultural irrigation systems. They are particularly suitable for areas requiring large-area watering, such as vegetable gardens or orchards. They can also be used in combination with other sprinklers to improve irrigation efficiency.

Maintenance

Maintaining an impact sprinkler is simple: regularly clean the nozzle to prevent clogging; check the spring and impact arm for damage; and drain the water from the pipes during winter to prevent freezing and cracking. Avoid excessively high water pressure to extend its lifespan.
